Rhino's Reef 3D-printed magnetic disc frag mounts on the print bed

Aquascaping with Magnetic Frag Mounts

Here is the problem with gluing every coral straight to the rock: corals grow, your lighting and flow are not the same in every spot, and the frag that loved that ledge in month one might be shaded out by month six. Magnetic frag mounts fix that.

Why magnetic mounts

A magnetic mount holds your frag on a magnet instead of permanently cementing it in place. That means you can reposition any coral, any time, without prying it off the rock or re-gluing. Chasing better light for an SPS, giving an LPS more room, opening up flow, you just move the magnet.

How to use them

  1. Mount the frag to the magnetic base with super glue gel (same 60-second method).
  2. Place the magnet where you want it on the rockwork or glass.
  3. Watch how the coral responds over a week or two, color, polyp extension, growth direction.
  4. Not thrilled? Move it. No tools, no damage, no stress.

Aquascaping tips

  • Put high-light corals (most SPS) up high, lower-light corals (many LPS and softies) down low, and adjust from there.
  • Leave space between colonies for growth and to avoid chemical warfare between neighbors.
  • Use the freedom to design in layers and depth instead of one flat shelf.

Magnetic mounts turn aquascaping from a permanent commitment into something you can actually tune as your reef grows in.
